Halloween event enjoyed by many families

Costumed kids from the community escaped the scary weather over the weekend and took part in the Kiwanis Club?s annual fall festival.

The event is usually called ?Fall Fest in the Park,? but cold rainy conditions forced club members to move the event indoors to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5857 of Onaway. About 31 participants played games, decorated pumpkins, showed off their Halloween costumes, drank cider and ate cookies, as well as received treats. It was some old-fashioned family fun at the post.

THE KIDS EVEN marched in around the tables in parade formation, so the costumes could be judge.

?Some were very original,? said Karen LeC

ureux, vice president. She noted the larger than life pizza costume worn by Lisa Luhellier, who took first in the most original category and won a cash prize. It had a cardboard crust edge with construction paper toppings.

Sisters Sarah and Jessica Simpson wore the scariest costumes at the hall. Sarah was a vampire?s princess and took first in the scariest costume contest, while Jessica was a devil and claimed second. They were so scary looking, Hope Moore, who took third, didn?t want to stand next to the girls when final photos were taken.

Even when prompted to move closer, Hope wasn?t moving.

Games included a donut on a string eating contest and musical chairs. According to a Kiwanis member, attendance was down — but for those who did show up — a good time was had by all.
