RCHS grapplers take to the mat Dec. 2

The Rogers City varsity wrestling team will see their first action of the season Wednesday Dec. 2 in Alpena for a tri-meet with the Wildcats and the St. Ignace Saints. Returning to the Huron lineup this year are junior state champion heavyweight Devin Pommerenke and state qualifier Joey Sobeck as well as regional qualifiers Keegan Urban, Greg Tulgestke and Daniel Marx who were all just one win away from a trip to the finals. Although the Hurons do not have a full lineup just yet head coach Pat Lamb feels he has a strong team that will be very competitive. Seniors Ben Tulgestke and Jacob Reisner return to the team and are joined by senior Brandon Haneckow.

Six juniors, four sophomores and six freshman round out the team in the early going of this year. The Hurons lost Luke Ryan, Travis Lafferty, Jim Tomas and Mike Pacella to graduation this year but look forward to gearing up for the season. The tri-meet is set to begin at 6 p.m. and will feature the Hurons against the Saints who defeated them in the district finals a year ago.
