The shots are still not falling for the Viking girls? basketball team as they lost at Fairview Tuesday, 48-41. Posen slips to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the North Star League (NSL), and go from the frying pan into the fire tomorrow night against conference favorite Arenac Eastern, who hasn?t lost. The Vikings play a makeup game Monday against Cedarville. The junior varsity starts the action at 5 p.m. Fairview jumped out to an early 10-0 lead and held on for a 10-2 advantage at the end of the first eight minutes.

The Vikings outscored the host Eagles 15-11 in the second quarter to trail by only four at halftime. The girls chipped away at the lead and got it to one at the end of three. Fairview won the fourth quarter (17-11) to put the game away. Post player Kayla Weaver, last year?s NSL most valuable player, had 16 points and 17 rebounds for Fairview.

For Posen, LeAnn Strzelecki had nine points. ?IT WAS our inability to hit shots, again,? said head coach Karl Momrik. ?The shots we took, were excellent shots. We nearly took a bad shot. We took better shots than Fairview.? Yet, they only made 29 percent from the field. ?I was pleased with the shots we were taking, but I wasn?t pleased with the way we handled the ball.? The girls had 25 turnovers and 23 against Mio, both los

ses. The shooting percentage against Mio was 24 percent.

Last Friday, in Posen?s first home win of the season, Janice Ciarkowski collected a career-best 20 rebounds in a 65-39 win against Au Gres. She also led the team with 15 points. Casey Barrow had 12, while fellow guard Anna Couture put in nine. The Vikings were 6-of-9 from the free throw line in the first half to build a 15-point lead, 36-21.

IN THE second half, Posen converted three unconventional three point plays, where players went to the free throw line, made the first, yet had a teammate get the miss on the second try and put it in.

It happened twice early in the third quarter while Lindsey Bartz and Leanne Buczkowski were at the foul line. Ciarkowski and Lindsay Ponik grabbed the offensive rebounds. The play happened again on the last offensive play of the game with Ciarkowski at the line and Korynn Hincka getting the rebound and scoring the field goal. ?Casey Barrow came up with a nice floor game for us,? said Momrik. The junior varsity won 59-18 Tuesday and 69-4.
