Godsey finished as a co-champion and took home $50 for his efforts. Whitsitt, Godsey, Darr and Talita Isma will represent Cheboygan County in January in Gaylord at the Regional Spelling Bee.

The event took place at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Cheboygan where the seating area was nearly packed full with supporters and many listened in on the radio.

All entrants in the spelling bee also took home dictionaries courtesy of a long list of sponsors. Judges were Judge Bob Butts, of the Cheboygan County Probate Court and Crystal Johnson, family ombudsman for the U.S Coast Guard cutter Mackinaw.
