Derry, Lenard to lead RCHS class of 2010

Rogers City High School (RCHS) is proud to announce the 27 honor students that will be leading the class of 2010 in commencement ceremonies on June 6. Valedictorian Andrew Derry and salutatorian Amanda Lenard will lead their class of 63 as they go from seniors to alumni that Sunday. Derry (3.983) is the son of William and Ann Derry. He is involved in the Key Club, national honor society (NHS), The Bigs an Littles (TBL) mentoring, Y-Care mentoring, youth group, Natural Helpers and student council. He was a member of the cross country team for the Hurons, is co-editor of the yearbook and is active in St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Andrew enjoys reading, running, hiking, biking, swimming and playing sports for fun.

After graduating from RCHS in June, Derry plans to attend Central Michigan University (CMU) to pursue a degree in the medical sciences. After his undergraduate studies at Central he plans to attend medical school to obtain his master?s degree in psychiatry. Lenard (3.966) is the daughter of Richard and Linda Lenard. She is a member of NHS, Key Club, educational talent search (ETS) and has spent time tutoring elementary students. Lenard has been involved in basketball and softball for the Hurons. She is a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and youth group, coaches for the Presque Isle Basketball Association (PIBA) and Little League softball. She enjoys hunting in-line skating, biking, swimming and horseback riding.

She also enjoys plenty of summer activities, including riding personal watercraft, tubing, knee boarding and four wheeling. She most importantly loves hanging out with her family and friends; she has two younger sisters and a younger brother. After graduation Lenard plans to attend Michigan Technological University to obtain a degree in mechanical engineering.

Logan Schuiteman (3.902) is the daughter of Dr. Jay and Deb Schuiteman. She is a member of the Key Club, NHS and was first runner-up in the 2009 Nautical City Queen?s Pageant. She has participated in volleyball, basketball and softball for the Hurons and is also a member of the Presque Isle Panthers traveling softball team. Schuiteman plans to attend a four-year university to get a bachelor?s degree in pre-dentistry before transferring to a dental school to finish her education. Schuiteman plans to one day open a dental practice of her own.

Anthony Bannasch (3.895) is the son of Scott Bannasch and Susan Bannasch. He is a member of the Key Club, Natural Helpers and NHS. He participated in bowling for the Hurons and is a member of the RCHS concert, jazz and marching bands. He enjoys spending time with friends and family as well as traveling in his free time. Bannasch plans to attend CMU to study accounting and leadership. He also plans to be a member of the marching band. Emily Schleben (3.883) is the daughter of Jim and Carrie Schleben. She is a member of the Key Club, NHS, Natural Helpers, the Peace Lutheran Church senior youth group, TBL, jazz band, marching and concert bands, flag team, city band, 4-H and is her class secretary. Schleben plans to attend Lake Superior State University (LSSU) in the fall to study secondary education.

Tayler Bannasch (3.833) is the daughter of Brian and Barb Bannasch. She is a member of the concert and marching bands, NHS, Natural Helpers and Key Club. She has participated in varsity bowling for the Hurons and is a member of The Dance Centre competitive dance team. She was a contestant in the 2009 Nautical City Queens Pageant. In her free time she enjoys reading, listening to music and hanging out with her friends. In the fall Tayler plans to attend CMU to study physical therapy. David Lewandowski (3.818) is the son of Fred and Lori Lewandowski. He is the president of his class, president of the NHS, treasurer of the Key Club, and is a member of the knowledge bowl team and Natural Helpers. David participated in Close Up Washington, jazz band, football, hockey and track and field. He was named academic all-state for honorable mention for his achievements both on the field and in the classroom. This fall David will attend the University of Michigan where he plans to attain a doctoral degree in ophthalmology.

Alicia Belusar (3.807) is the daughter of David and Carol Belusar. She is a member of the Key Club, Natural Helpers, TBL, NHS, ETS, student council and jazz band. She is also the leader of D-13, a nondenominational school-based ministry Christian organization. Alicia also enjoys spending time with her family and friends as well as physical activity such as soccer, tennis, running, volleyball, sledding and swimming. She enjoys reading, helping people in any way she can and playing her alto saxophone and acoustic guitar. For the first two years of her college education Belusar plans to attend Alpena Community College. She is unsure of what she will pursue after that but her biggest desire is to serve God in any way she can.

Katelyn Tulgestke (3.753) is the daughter of Mike and Kathy Tulgestke. She enjoys sports, animals, riding personal watercraft, four wheeling and being with her friends. She has participated in volleyball, basketball and softball for the Hurons. Tulgestke plans to attend Ferris State University (FSU) in the fall to pursue a degree in criminal justice. She wants to become a law enforcement officer and work her way up to being an officer on a K-9 unit.

Sara Dimick (3.743) is the daughter of Don and Marilyn Dimick. She is involved in Key Club, NHS, student council, Natural Helpers, TBL, Y-Care mentoring, teen advisory group, ski club, drama club, 4-H, Girl Scouts and jazz band. Dimick has volunteered more than 1,500 hours of community service throughout her high school career and she volunteers every Sunday from May-October at Mackinac State Historic Park as a British assistant cook. She enjoys cooking, mountain biking and learning about Japan.

Dimick plans to attend LSSU in the fall to study in the fisheries and wildlife management program. She hopes to be employed in an aquarium in her future but would also like to continue her education earning a masters or doctoral degree in fisheries and wildlife management. She also looks forward to traveling to Japan in her future. Megan Hopp (3.726) is the daughter of Robert and Connie Hopp. She is involved in Key Club, NHS and Natural Helpers. She volunteers a lot of her time by helping with the Easter egg hunt, tree decorating and much more. She is a member of the RCHS band and was a contestant in the 2009 Nautical City Queen?s pageant. She enjoys dancing and is a member of The Dance Centre competitive team, reading, helping others, hanging out with friends and family, and swimming.

Megan plans to attend Saginaw Valley State University this fall to study dentistry. She hopes to earn her degree and either set up or join a dental office and continue to help people. Jordyn Lamb (3.721) is the daughter of Richard and Riconda Lamb. She is a member of NHS, ETS, Key Club, 4-H, the St. John and St. Ignatius youth groups, is an usher at St. John Lutheran Church, is the yearbook co-editor, was Miss Rogers City 2008, attended Close Up Washington, was a 2007 Presque Isle County Fair queen contestant and was a member of Y-Care mentoring.

Lamb participated in basketball for the Hurons and has been a student at the Dance Centre in Alpena for 14 years where she participated on the competitive dance team. She also enjoys in-line skating, reading, writing, playing piano, biking and volunteering. Lamb plans to attend CMU to major in biology and minor in design. Paige McLennan (3.689) is the daughter of Scott and Shari McLennan. She was a contestant in the 2009 Nautical City Queen?s pageant. She enjoys in-line skating, swimming, shopping, scrapbooking, watching movies and spending time with her family and friends.

After graduation from RCHS McLennan plans to attend a four-year university to pursue a degree in the health care field. Juliann LaBar (3.524) is the daughter of Dana and Michelle LaBar. She is Miss Rogers City 2009, is a member of the Key Club and NHS. She enjoys music, singing, acting, cheerleading and hanging out with friends. She plans to attend Alpena Community College (ACC) in the fall before transferring to a university to pursue a master?s degree. Jeffry Kuznicki Jr. (3.477) is the son of Jeffry and Irene Kuznicki. Jeffry enjoys music, hunting, fishing, sports and video games. He participated in football for the Hurons and was active in the marching, concert and jazz bands, choir and shares his musical talent with many communities.

This fall Jeffry plans to attend Alpena Community College for a year then transfer to Western Michigan University to double major in K-12 music education and jazz studies. Cara Lafferty (3.447) is the daughter of Maureen and Chris Regan, and David and Amy Lafferty. She is a member of NHS, Natural Helpers, Key Club, ETS , 4-H, was a 2009 contestant in the Nautical City Queen?s pageant and participated in TBL and cheerleading. She plans to attend ACC for her first year or two of college before transferring to FSU to study pharmacy. Christopher Vogelheim (3.440) is the son of Michelle Vogelheim and Val Vogelheim. He has participated in varsity football and basketball for the Hurons. He enjoys sports, camping, snowmobiling and hanging out with his friends. Following graduation in June, Vogelheim plans to attend ACC before transferring to a university.

Erik Meharg (3.333) is the son of John and Sally Meharg. He has participated in basketball and baseball for the Hurons. Erik is a member of NHS and enjoys four wheeling and hanging out with his friends. After graduating from RCHS, Meharg plans to attend FSU to pursue premedical studies. Tyler Szumila (3.332) is the son of Richard and Lori Hanson. He has played baseball and basketball for the Hurons and is a member of Natural Helpers and NHS. He enjoys hunting, fishing and playing and watching sports.

Szumila is undecided on what his major will be but plans to attend ACC in the fall. Amanda Rickle (3.323) is the daughter of Bonnie Rickle. She is involved with the Key Club and TBL. She enjoys hanging out with her friends, reading, spending time with her family and going to sporting events to cheer on the Hurons. Rickle plans to attend LSSU in the fall and hopes to eventually become a K-9 law enforcement officer.

Cheyenne DuVerney (3.295) is the daughter of Dale and Jerrie DuVerney. She is involved in the Key Club, NHS, Natural Helpers, the band and the flag team. She was a member of the bowling team for the Hurons and enjoys writing poetry and short stories, playing volleyball, swimming and being surrounded by good friends. DuVerney plans to attend CMU in the fall to study secondary education in English. William Talaske (3.226) is the son of Daniel and Kathy Talaske. He enjoys hunting, fishing, football and small engine repair. He is a student council and Key Club member and is the vice president of the senior class.

After graduating from RCHS Talaske plans to attend the utility technician program at ACC. Patrick Quaine (3.220) is the son of Matthew and Jacqueline Quaine. He is a member of NHS, Natural Helpers, ski club, is a registered Michigan High School Athletic Association official for football and basketball, has coached and officiated PIBA and volunteers as a Little League umpire. Quaine has participated in football, basketball and baseball for the Hurons. In his future Quaine plans to study sports medicine to become an athletic trainer. He will begin his college career at ACC in the fall.

Matthew Mertz (3.165) is the son of Jeff and Laura Mertz. He enjoys sports and outdoor activities. He has participated in basketball and baseball for the Hurons. Mertz plans to attend FSU this fall to study electrical engineering. Rayna Greenway (3.052) is the daughter of Marie Greenway and Paul and Tina Greenway. She enjoys drawing, playing sports, fishing, camping, swimming and spending a lot of time with her friends and family. After she graduates from RCHS this June, Greenway plans to join the United States Army to possibly pursue a military career.

Wade Wilk (3.036) is the son of

Clifford and Jacqueline Wilk. He has participated in football, wrestling, golf, NHS and class of 2010 activities. He also enjoys fishing, golfing and paintball. Wilk plans to learn how to blow glass and attend ACC after finishing his career at RCHS. Brogan Brege (3.027) is the daughter of Neil and Yvonne Brege. She was a second runner-up in the 2009 Nautical City Queen?s pageant, is a member of Natural Helpers, Key Club, TBL, marching and concert band, flag team and cheerleading. She was a member of the 2010 state champion bowling team and is her class treasurer. Brege also enjoys photography and scrapbooking.

Brege plans to attend Lansing Community College in the fall to study photography and earn a job advancement degree in sign language to work with young children with hearing disabilities.
