Millersburg library move in day next Wednesday

by Peter Jakey, Managing Editor

The target date for the opening of the new Millersburg library branch remains firm. Presque Isle Library District assistant director Carolyn Chrzan told the library board Wednesday afternoon the new outlet will open its doors April 6 ?unless we have a snowstorm.?

The library board voted last month to expand its four branches to five by adding one more in the Case Township Community building, formerly the Millersburg Elementary School. It will be located where the old school library had been, in the last room in the northwest corner of the building.

Staff will start moving books and equipment in next Wednesday. ?They have volunteers who are going to help us next Wednesday when we start moving everything over,? said Chrzan during the library board?s monthly meeting. ?We are set to go.?

CHRZAN SAID books are being ordered and also are being pulled from other branches. ?Ninety percent of our equipment is all here: chairs, desks, fax machines, telephones, whatever. The only

thing that is holding us back is the cataloging.?

The circulation software needs to be installed for the cataloging to start. Chrzan said that process will begin late next week. If there is a problem, ?We will use the old-fashion checkout cards.?

JoLynn Zalewski, who works in the Onaway branch, will be the clerk. The hours will be Tuesday, 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Zalewski will be coming over during the time she had been working in Onaway, so there will be no additional hours that will have to be paid. Director Jan Stevenson said that would save $3,200 annually.

Beach Hall, board chairman, asked if someone ordering a book from another branch on Tuesday, could get it by Thursday. Chrzan?s answer was, ?yes.? The vote by the library board to establish the new facility was Feb. 3.
