Golfers to host Harbor Light, Onaway teams

Huron golfers hit the links for some action last week. In a May 4 meet at Newberry, Rogers City lost 202-182 to the hosts. Results: Alec Brietzke shot a 46 and Zach Munn shot a 47 to lead the Hurons. Other scores were Craig Nadolsky 53, Nick Kamyszek 56 and Wade Wilk 58. Low man for the meet was Dan Yoak of Newberry with a 39.

?We were hoping to come away with the victory to get another point toward our conference standings but we could pull it off,? said coach Dave Haselhuhn. In a beautiful day for golf, the Hurons placed second in a meet at Lost Lake Woods in Alcona. Alcona shot 182, Rogers City followed with 203 and Oscoda placed third at 213. ?It was a beautiful day for golf, with the sun shining and warm temperatures, and the course was in excellent shape. Probably the best we planned on so far this year. I was hoping for a closer match against Alcona but it just wasn’t meant to be, but we’ll take the win over Oscoda,? Haselhuhn said.

Results were Munn 45, Wilk 51, Nadolsky 53, Kamyszek 54 and Brietzke 58. In an 18-hole match at Cheboygan, scores were a bit cooler as the weather chilled. Team scores were Charlevoix 313, Petoskey 326, Cheboygan 331, Alpena 342, St. Ignace 346, Sault Ste. Marie 347, Inland Lakes 411 and Rogers City 438. Individual scores were Munn 108, Nadolsky 113, Wilk 122, Kamyszek 114, and Brietzke 103.

?We just plain struggled today as a team, no doubt about that. We were playing against some very good competition, most of which were Division I and II schools. Whatever mistakes we made today, I hope we don’t repeat them on Wednesday during the conference meet,? Haselhuhn said. Low man for the tournament was Brandon Vizina of Inland Lakes with a 74. ?Consistency seemed to be our biggest problem over the past week, with our scores fluctuating pretty drastically. We can shoot the scores to turn in a good team score, but we’re having trouble finding four golfers to do it on the same day. Our next conference meet is Wednesday back in Cheboygan for nine holes and then we’ll be home on Thursday against Harbor Light Christian and Onaway for nine holes as well. We’re really looking for a victory on Thursday to help pull us out of the rut we’ve been in for a week,? the coach said.
