RC Softball has a perfect 6-0 week

The Rogers City Hurons varsity softball team has had a busy but successful week as they took two from Sault Ste. Marie, Tuesday, won the Leslie Invitational Saturday and swept St. Ignace Thursday. In the Sault on Tuesday the Hurons won by scores of 4-2 and 9-4 to move to 4-0 in the conference. In game one the Hurons were down 1-0 going into the third inning when they exploded for four runs. Katie Darga and Sara Carpenter both reached base on errors before Brooklyn Idalski walked. Logan Schuiteman then stepped to the plate and ripped a single good for two RBIs.

Greta Grambau then walked before Nikkie LaLonde singled in two more runs to take the score to 4-1 in favor of the Hurons. Schuiteman had two hits for the Hurons while Emily Marx and Carpenter each had one. Schuiteman earned the pitching win as she went all six innings scattering seven hits and striking out six. In game two the game would begin and go back and forth for the Hurons as they trailed 4-3 after the third inning. In the fifth inning the Huron offense exploded for six runs to take the 9-3 win.

Darga earned the win on the mound as she gave up four runs on six hits while striking out eight. Carpenter had two hits while Marx and Darga each had one. Rogers City was patient at the plate and drew some walks. They put the ball in play and took advantage of some Blue Devil errors in the come from behind win. ?I really like how our girls kept battling during both games. I like where we are as a team. Everybody is working together for a common goal. Our upperclassmen have been great leaders for our underclassmen and our community can be proud of the effort of our team,? said coach Karl Grambau.

SATURDAY AT the Leslie Invitational the Hurons defeated Jackson Vandercook Lake 4-2 in game one. Darga earned the win on the mound going all seven innings giving up two runs on one hit while striking out nine. Rogers City mustered four hits in the contest led by Linnea Brege with two hits and two RBIs. Marx and Sam Hall each added a hit and an RBI in the win. In t

he finals against Fowler behind the pitching of Schuiteman who gave up four runs on five hits while striking out eight the Hurons won 10-4. Carpenter had two hits for the Hurons while LaLonde and Katie Tulgestke each had a hit and two RBIs.

THURSDAY HOSTING St. Ignace the Hurons won in convincing fashion as they took game one 16-1 in three innings. Schuiteman started the game and struck out the side in the first inning. The Hurons then came to bat and plated 10 runs in the first inning. Schuiteman then gave way to Brege who pitched the final two innings allowing one run on one hit and striking out two.

The Hurons had 11 hits in the game led by Marx, Tulgestke and Rebecca Meredith who each had two hits. Schuiteman, Idalski, Danielle Rhode, Brenna Hincka and Meagan Koss each had one hit in the game. Game two was much the same story as the Hurons won 15-0 in three innings. Darga started the game and struck out the side in the first. Idalski pitched the second inning while Hincka threw the third. Hincka and Hall led the offensive attack with two hits each while Grambau, Darga, Rhode and Koss each had hits in the game. Rhode?s hit was a double. Undefeated Onaway comes to town today (Thursday) before Marquette arrives tomorrow. Saturday the Hurons will be at the Bellaire Invitational where they square off with Frankfort at noon. Tuesday the Hurons travel to Cheboygan for a conference doubleheader that could decide the conference championship.
