Young runners set new personal records

Rogers City track teams were in Inland Lakes for the Bulldog Classic on Thursday May 6. With warm weather 11 teams competed at the meet as the Rogers City boys finished eighth and the girls finished sixth. ?The boys? team had a good showing with some major improvements from some of our younger runners,? said coach Rob Kortman. Sophomore Joey Sobeck set new personal records (PR) in both the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200. Sobeck was fifth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:04.88 and third in the 3,200 with a time of 10:58.96. Andrew Freel also set a new PR as he took a fifth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 47.65.

Also placing for the boys where Brandon Haneckow who was third in the discus with a throw of 112? 4? and second in the high jump at 5? 10?. Reese Schmucker was sixth in the shot put 36? 8?. For the girls Leilani Kortman placed second in both the 100 hurdles (17.68) and the 300 hurdles (53.15). Heather Luetzow was first in the 400 at 1:04.15. Also placing was the 800 relay team of Kortman, Amanda Krajnik, Sierra Centala and Luetzow, fifth at 2:04.97 and the 1,600 relay team of Kortman, Shelby Pratt, Bailey Andrzejewski and Luetzow was fourth at 4:44.18 According to coach Kortman the teams are improving with every meet, and will be in action this Thursday in East Jordan.
