Board member resigns

The Rogers City Area Schools board of education not only will have some teaching and support staff positions to fill before the beginning of the school year in September, they also lost one of their own Monday night when board member Bob Starnes’ letter of resignation was accepted.

In Starnes’ letter addressed to president Mike Marx, he stated he will be moving to upstate New York in July and the meeting this week would be his last. ?Life is taking me somewhere else,? said Starnes, who is pursuing a budding relationship. ?She lives in New York. I’ve been trying to get her to move here, but she won’t budge.? The board will be seeking letters of interest from potential replacements to review at the next board meeting.

It shouldn’t be too difficult finding candidates, since there were three local residents vying for one seat in May’s election won by Don Kromer. He edged John Krajenta and write-in candidate Daniel Burd. Starnes’ term has one year remaining. After that, the seat will go to a vote of the people.
