Couture and Ciarkowski named athletes of the year at annual awards event

Seniors Scott Couture and Janice Ciarkowski were honored as Viking athletes of the year at the June 9 all-sports banquet. As always, the event began with an array of fine food. As the evening went on, each coach took turns at the podium to recognize each athlete, as well as hand out special awards. Ciarkowski was the most valuable infielder on the softball team, was the top rebounder and most valuable player (MVP) in basketball, and was recognized as the best passer on the volleyball team. Couture was a co-MVP in basketball and baseball, and also received the coaches? award in football.

Additionally, both were honored with Clifford Kelly Scholarship Awards. Other Vikings who received awards from their coaches included: – Baseball: Brandon Dietz (rookie of the year), Luke Bruski (most valuable outfielder), Shane Hentkowski (outstanding pitcher), Nathan Lenard (top infielder), Justin LaPointe (offensive leader), LaPointe and Scott Couture (co-MVPs).

– Girls? basketball: Anna Couture (rookie of the year), Korynn Hincka (sixth girl award), Lindsey Bartz (most improved), Janice Ciarkowski (top rebounder and MVP). – Football: Nathan Street (defensive player of the year), Travis Hirschman (lineman of the year), Shane Hentkowski (offensive player of the year, most improved and most valuable), Scott Couture (coaches? award).

– Softball: Ashley Meyers (rookie of the year), Janice Ciarkowski (top infielder), Paige Lewandowski (top outfielder), Leanne Buczkowski (top hitter), Anna Couture (most improved), Lindsay Ponik and Buczkowski (most valuable). – Boys? track: David Kerr (best in sprints, middle distance, most valuable), Corey Hentkowski (best in field events), Lucas Litwi

nski (distance), Eric Rice (most improved). – Girls? track: Julia Lewandowski (best sprinter), Tracy Mulka (best in field events), Katie Stowe (middle distance), Korynn Hincka (distance, most valuable).

– Volleyball: Lindsay Ponik (top server, most valuable), Cheryl Romel (assists), Leanne Buczkowski (blocks), Janice Ciarkowski (top passer), Lindsey Bartz (most improved). – Boys? basketball: Shane Hentkowski (defensive player of the year, rebounder and most valuable), Luke Bruski (most improved), David Kerr (free throws, offensive player of the year), Scott Couture (most valuable).

Ken Wozniak, president of the Posen board of education, congratulated baseball coach Pat Kowalski for his induction into the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association this weekend. ?I would like to congratulate each individual athlete on a fantastic school year,? said Wozniak. ?You not only competed at the best of your ability, but your behavior on and off the playing field has been terrific. Your parents, coaches, school administrators are especially proud in the way you represented yourself and our school.? Wozniak also recognized the girls? basketball and softball teams for receiving academic all-state honors. ?I would like to thank our sports boosters for being huge supporters of the funding of our athletics,? Wozniak continued. ?Without their hard work and generosity, our sports program would not be where it is today. I strongly encourage more participation.?
