Nearly 100 people gathered in Chandler Park June 5 for the Onaway Area Chamber of Commerce lucky duck raffle. According to organizers, all who were there enjoyed the raffle, which raised money for the 2010 Fourth of July firework fund.

Guests enjoyed hot dogs, the raffle, the duck chuck and a fun day at the park. ?A great time was had by everybody,? said chamber executive director Bev Brougham.

A ?pond? is set up by the firemen of the area before it is filled and all the ducks are placed in it. Random members of the crowd are then invited to the pond to pick a duck to win a prize.

In the super duck raffle Standard Pluming and Heating took first place while Aurora Gas Co. was second and Onaway Community Federal Credit Union was third. Chagnon Funeral Home took the ?lame? duck or last duck pulled prize.

Mar?rie Chagnon-Hazelman was the first prize winner in the Lucky Duck raffle. Pam Crowe was second while Tom Albrect was third.

James and Beverly Haas not only purchased quite

a few duck tickets in the lucky duck raffle but gave a $500 donation to the fireworks fund. The couple recently moved to the Black Lake area and gave to the cause.

?$500 is a generous donation and I think they should be recognized for that,? said Brougham of the donation, which will help make the 2010 fireworks in Onaway as good as they have been if not better.

This year for the kids was the duck chuck contest. Six age categories of kids participated by purchasing a glow in the dark duck, standing on a line and throwing the duck, the child who threw it farthest in their age group was the winner.

According to Brougham the fireworks fund is looking good and all is set for the fireworks to be launched from Horrock?s field on July 4. The rain date is set for July 11.
