The 2010 postseason tournament run of the Little League Major Boys? all-stars ended much sooner than the players and coaches expected last weekend in Cheboygan. The Rogers City squad of 11- and 12-year-olds lost their opener last Saturday to Sault Ste. Marie, 5-2, before their elimination from the tournament at the hands of Tahquamenon Falls, 9-2. The tournament format is double elimination.

Corey Grulke started the first game, going 2 2/3 innings with two strikeouts. He gave up three hits, five runs and three walks. He was followed to the mound by Justin Saile (2 IN, 3 K’s, 1 H, 1 W) and Travis Sharpe (1 1/3 IN, 2 K’s, 2 W). Saile had a double, single and knocked in one. Quintin Kelly had a pair of singles, while Deuce Tulgestka and Grulke each added a hit. Sharpe started the next day against Tahquamenon Falls. He struck out seven and limited the opposing batters to four hits, but gave up six walks. Alex Altman pitched a perfect fifth with one K.

Grulke had a double, single and knocked in one, while Kelly had a RBI double. Saile was 1-for-3. Eight teams are ready to go in the Little League Minor Boys? tournament in Harbor Springs. The long wait for the Rogers City players is finally over Saturday at noon with a game against Nort

h Emmet. The Minor Boys? all-stars (9- and 10-year-olds) have been practicing four days a week for about three weeks. This week it will be five days leading into the first contest. ?If they play as well as they?ve practiced, we?ll do all right,? said head coach Todd Budnick. ?We?ve got a good team here.?

Budnick has the advantage of being able to change the players around to different positions. The pitching has looked pretty good and they?ve taken lots of batting practice, said Budnick, who brings in a roster of 11 into the postseason. Win or lose Saturday, the boys will be in action Sunday as well.

The Little League Junior Boys? team will be in action tomorrow (Friday). No further information regarding the team has been made available, as phone calls have not been returned.
