Fishing tournament and family fun day this weekend

Lakeside Park in Rogers City will be a flourish of activity again this weekend as the 4th Annual Hammond Bay Area Anglers fishing tournament and family fun day will take place Saturday and Sunday. The first 100 kids, 11 years of age and younger, on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. will be able to catch a fish in the fish pond, have it weighed and put on the leader board, then have it cleaned and cooked. Children will also be able to make their own fishing lure, make a fish print T-shirt and participate in other kids activities. Awards will be given out for children on the leaderboard.

The boat with the greatest total weight of one person?s daily limit wins the tournament each day per boat. Fish can be salmon or trout for the boat weigh-in. Last year?s tournament was won by Short Fuse with captain Jim Schleben and crew members Eugene Krueger, Mark Karsten and Jodi Paull who netted 45.45 pounds of fish. Biggest fish awards will also be given out for salmon, lake trout, brown trout, steelhead and walleye.

Registration for the fishing tournament is Friday from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Rogers City Marina or can be done by calling (989) 734-0760. The entry fee for the tournament is $500 with big prize money for the winners. Fishing begins with inspections at 5 a.m. Saturday and fisherman must return to the Rogers City Marina by 7 p.m. Saturday for weigh-in and by 2 p.m. Sunday. There are no boundaries for the tournament. On Saturday from noon until 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon until 3 p.m., there will be a barbeque open to the public.
