Boyne takes win over RC in home opener

Rogers City looks for its first win of the season as they take on Alcona Friday at 7 p.m. Alcona is 1-1 after a 21-20 loss in week one to Atlanta and a 30-26 win over AuGres last week. Coach Mike Kosiara saw his team give a less than stellar effort in a 47-0 loss to Boyne City (1-1) last week. Boyne rolled up 352 yards of offense while limiting the Hurons to just 84. ?We need to turn around our attitude and take it to Alcona. The season will be one-third over so we have no more time to wait,? Kosiara said. Boyne City led 15-0 after the first quarter and 27-0 at halftime as the Hurons gave up several long runs to the Ramblers.

Boyne scored on runs of 10 yards, following a 12-play 67-yard drive with 6:09 left in the first quarter, a 45-yard run with 1:25 left in the first quarter, and a 41-yard run three plays into a 48-yard drive in the second quarter. Kosiara tried to light a spark by sending his team out for a fourth-and-seven play with six minutes left in the first half. Senior quarterback Jesse Wilbert found senior wideout Levi Ellenberger over the middle for a first down at midfield. That drive ended on an interception three plays later.

The Ramblers went up 35-0 on a touchdown with 9:49 left in the third quarter. That brought out the running clock on the Hurons? first home game of the season.

Rogers City?s first drive of the third quarter ended as Boyne intercepted a Wilbert pass, which deflected off the hands of a would-be receiver. That set up the next Rambler score, a four-yard run, capping a 11-play drive covering 57 yards. The last Boyne score came on an 11-yard run following an interception return to the Huron 27. There were some positives the Hurons will have to build on as the season progresses. ?On offense it was good to see Jesse find Chad Karsten at split end with some passes. Defensively when we do things right, we can look good,? Kosiara said. ?I think we are trying to find our way.?
