by Peter Jakey, Managing Editor

A growing Labor Day tradition continues Saturday with the 7th annual Stepping Stones Garden Club?s (SSGC) Garden Fair on the grounds of Maxon Field.

According Mary Faircloth, chairperson of the event, there will be vendors with some of the nicest produce grown in the area, baked goods, seeds and bulbs for next year?s garden, and Christmas gift ideas for those hard-to-buy family members. The event is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

?We have a sunflower contest for kids and adults

,? said Faircloth. ?New this year, we have a sculpture ornament contest. That has to be made with recycled materials, and, anybody can enter that.?

THE SCULPTURES have to be checked in by 11 a.m., while the sunflowers have to be in by noon. The popular kids? games return, with lots of prizes. The Onaway Fire Department also will be on hand with a fire truck to give a demonstration.

Joy Community Church and Jim Bancroft will be providing the entertainment. Chairs will be set out to take a load off and if you want to take a break from browsing, or to just sit back and get immersed in the music.

SSGC is the organization that has taken on many beautification projects in Onaway, including the grounds of the Onaway Courthouse, the island at the State Street/Washington Avenue bend in front of the courthouse and the Chandler Park entrance, to name a few.
