Sheriff?s deputies from the Presque Isle County Sheriff?s Department arrested a couple of suspects they believe were involved in a rash of breaking and enterings of summer cottages and hunting camps in two areas of the county, and have others on the run.

According to sheriff Bob Paschke, an estimated $40,000 worth of merchandise has been recovered and has the department evidence room bursting at the seams with a variety of items that include tools, an ice auger, snowmobile helmets to several bottles of liquor. Paschke said one group is believed to have been hitting an area north of Rogers City to Huron Beach, while the other area is from north of Posen to Kauffman Road in Presque Isle.

?THE GUYS have recovered a bunch of property just outside of Rogers City,? said Paschke. One suspect was jailed, while warrants were issued by the prosecutor?s office for two other suspects who are in their 20s ?We hear they?re out of state,? the sheriff said. ?The prosecutor?s office wil

l extradite them if and when they are caught.?

Officers making a traffic stop found stolen property in the vehicle, which led them to a residence outside of Rogers City with more stolen items.

Paschke said that led to more B & E?s that had been reported, ?and I?m sure that will lead to more as we?re getting more people coming up for hunting season.? There have been 10 reported B & E?s north of Rogers City and another 10 in the Grand Lake area. That doesn?t include what the Michigan State Police is investigating in Alpena County. Paschke said they have a lot of recovered items as well.

Brigitte Reynolds, 51, had her case bound over to Circuit Court on charges related to the Grand Lake B & E?s, while law enforcement would like to question possibly three individuals who may be involved. ?The guys have done a good job on it,? said Paschke. Nearly the entire department has been involved in the investigations, which started in early September.
