LeCureux earns right to compete at Division IV state finals

Ashley LeCureux will represent Onaway High School at the MHSAA Division IV state cross country finals Saturday at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.

The top 15 finishers in both the boys? and girls? races at Friday?s regional meet in Ellsworth earned the right to compete at state. LeCureux placed 10th among the 93 athletes in the girls? race.

The sophomore was among five Cardinals competing in the girls? event. Brooke Szymoniak finished in the top third of the field (27th), followed by Sam Freel, Faith Chapman, and Hannah Materna.

Anthony Lane was the top finisher among the OHS boys, placing 26th in the field of 83. Kyle Moreau was 35th, while Gus Robins was 37th, followed by Cory Grossman and Tommy McDade.

Lane, a two-time state qualifier, finishes his OHS cross country career as the only four-time Ski Valley Conference first-team runner in the program?s history.

LeCureux will compete against the very best in Division IV at Saturday?s state meet, scheduled to begin at MIS at 11 a.m.
