Vikings get best scoring output of the season

The Posen girls? basketball team recorded their highest scoring output of the season Tuesday, and are 5-0 at the one-quarter mark of the season. The Vikings latest win came in a 77-30 home floor drubbing of Fairview. The Vikes took a 19-point lead into the break, and when the buzzer sounded at the beginning of the second half, they took it up a notch. ?We had three days without practice, so you always wonder how we will do,? said head coach Karl Momrik. ?We had a couple of slow spots in the first half, but that was about it. The second half, we totally dominated. We did a good job on the boards. When we rebound, we go. We had the fast break running good tonight.?

Korynn Hincka had a game-high 21 points, Lindsey Bartz had 18, while Emily Delekta finish with 14. Eight of her 14 came in the fourth quarter.

Posen had the fast break going right from the start with opening baskets by LeAnn Strzelecki and Ashley Meyers. A pair of buckets from Bartz and the lead was 8-2. HINCKA’S THREE-POINT play coming out of a Fairview timeout made it 11-2. Strzelecki ended the first eight minutes the way she started it, with a layup. The score at the end of one was 19-9.

Fairview showed some life with a 6-0 run early in the second; however, Bartz and Hincka combined for 10 of the next 12 points before halftime (35-16). Bartz scored the first six points of the second half, and Fairview was getting skunked until the 4:04 mark. Tracy Mulka became the last player to get in the scoring column, coming off the bench and immediately getting a pass from Hincka with 3:18 remaining i

n the third.

Fairview managed only four points in the third, while Delekta scored the final four for a 55-20 lead. She also scored the final four in the fourth, all on weak side layups. The Vikings downed Au Gres last Friday, 67-34. Bartz topped Posen with 18 and was followed by Strzelecki with 15, Hincka with 11 and Ponik with 10.

Last Wednesday, Posen defeated Cedarville, 69-58. The host Lady Trojans led by eight after one; however, the Vikings took better care of the ball in the second quarter and trailed by one at halftime, 35-34. Hincka had 17, while Meyers put in 16. Bartz also put in 13.

THE JUNIOR varsity (4-1, 3-0) won all three of their games during the last week. They defeated Fairview, 39-18; Au Gres, 53-33; and Cedarville, 52-24. Bev Bednarski led the scoring in each game. She had 23, 30 and 28, respectively. Paige Kuffel had 8 against Cedarville.
