In a 5-0 vote, the Rogers City Area Schools board of education has extended superintendent Jamie Huber’s contract by one year. The contract will now go until June 2014. Huber?s performance during the last school year was evaluated in closed session at the Jan. 24 workshop session. Board president Mike Marx said Huber met or exceeded expectations in all evaluation categories, which ranged from Huber?s relationship with staff, the board and the public, to finances. The evaluation forms were distributed to board members following the Jan. 11 meeting.

As part of the motion, the board authorized Marx to begin negotiating the conditions of the contract with final consideration made by the board at a future meeting. THE SITUATION with the budget may sway negotiations as school officials across the state hold their breath in anticipation of Gov. Rick Snyder releasing details of his budget today in Lansing, which could include cuts to the per pupil foundation grant.

Huber was officially hired April 13, 2009 to take over the superintendent duties he had been handling for more than five months. He started in Rogers City as the secondary principal in the fall of 2007, before being asked to assume the superintendent duties in Nov. 2008. Huber is in the first year of a three-year contract paying him $87,900 a year.
