Roland H.W. Schaudt is Advance New Year baby for 2011

by Peter Jakey, Managing Editor

The Advance finally has its first baby of the year — and ?it’s a boy? for the second year in a row. Roland H.W. Schaudt is the son of Charlie Schaudt Jr. and his fianc? Kira Johengen. He was born at Alpena Regional Medical Center 26 days into 2011 at 8:15 a.m., bringing nearly four weeks of waiting for the first newborn to an end. Roland and his parents are the recipients of many generous gifts from local merchants which are geared toward making their first months together a lot easier. They need it, too, because they have their hands full with Jade, their first child, who is only 18 months.

ROLAND, LIKE most 5-day-old infants, is much happier in his mother’s arm than lying in his spacious bassinet. It su

re looks spacious for a baby measuring 18 inches and weighing 6 pounds, 13 ounces. Roland was due Feb. 1, so his parents were a little more surprised the ?first baby award? was still up for grabs. ?I figured it would be long gone,” said Kira Monday night. ?He’s a wonderful baby,? said Charlie.

?He’s adjusting to life here (home), since getting out of the hospital,? Kira added. ROLAND’S GRANDPARENTS are Sandra Stamp (Hawks), Charles Schaudt Sr. (Hillman), Mint Ritchie (Rogers City) and Neil Johengen. Tom Libby (Hawks) and Susan Ritchie (Rogers City) are his great-grandparents.

The merchants involved in the contest include: A-P Chrysler Dodge, TayBeck?s Grille and Bar, Lighthouse Restaurant, Nautical Lanes, Rogers City Ace Hardware, McLean Pharmacy, J & L Electronics, Karsten?s Luncheonette, Curtis Eyecare, Adrian?s Marathon and Citgo, Roostertail Restaurant, Rygwelski?s IGA, Rogers City Chevy Buick and Calcite Credit Union. The Advance also will be awarding a one-year subscription.
