Winter carnival scheduled for Saturday

Sports Park, The Hole, will be a flurry of activity Saturday from noon until 3 p.m. when the first annual winter carnival offers something for everyone. Ice skating, hockey goal shooting contests, snow sculpting, snow painting, chicken bowling, snow snakes and frozen octopede races are planned activities for the day. Free hot dogs, French fries, coffee and hot chocolate will be served and there will be a bonfire complete with s?mores.

The Rogers City parks and recreation committee along with a variety of local organizations; Optimist Club, Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, Key Club, Girl Scouts and historical re-enactors are sponsoring the event. With the weather looking decent and plenty of activities planned, those coordinating the event are hoping for a good turnout and the start of an event that could continue for years and be something to look forward to during these dog days of winter.
