7th Annual Antique and Vintage Snowmobile Show this weekend

by Angie Asam, Staff Writer

With snow in the forecast this week there is at least one group of people smiling; the snowmobilers. Snow coming down may help reinstate one aspect of the 7th Annual Antique and Vintage Snowmobile Show, the ride on Friday, which was cancelled a year ago when there was no snow for the ride.

The ride, if the weather allows it, will be held Friday at noon and will include a bon fire and weenie roast. Anyone is welcome to participate in the ride at the 208 club. Activity really begins to pick up Friday evening with the outhouse races scheduled for 7 p.m. in the parking lot at the Water?s Edge Restaurant and Lounge, which the organizers rent for the show weekend. Three person teams complete with a rider and two pushers/pullers will race their outhouses down a track for just a $5 entry fee. Grand River Navigation sponsors the outhouse races.

A live band, ?Bobbing for Piranhas? will perform Friday night beginning at 9:30 with a cash bar inside the back room of the restaurant. The public is invited and encouraged to attend all events scheduled as a part of the show. Organizers would like to remind those attending that drinking outside the building will not be allowed and no outside alcohol should be brought to the show.

Saturday registration for the show begins at 9 a.m. with the show running from then until 3:30 p.m. A swap area will also be open during the show with a $10 entry fee. Anyone with snowmobile parts or equipment or even whole sleds for sale are welcome to put their items in the swap area for potenti

al buyers to take a look at. Following the show a banquet dinner of chicken, whitefish and all the fixings served buffet style will be served at 5:30. Tickets for the dinner are $10 a piece and will be available at the show until sold out.

Along with the dinner will be the awards ceremony as well as 50/50 drawings and a Chinese raffle. Following the dinner and awards ceremony Bobbing for Piranhas will return to the stage once more to entertain the crowd. The Rogers City sports boosters will also be offering concessions on Friday night and during the day Saturday while the bar will be open for drinks.

Last year?s show brought in 178 sleds and organizer Dan Derry is hoping for at least that many if not more as the show has had good response from people across the state. Again, the public is invited to come see the snowmobiles on display, enjoy the dinner and take in all the events of the show which is open to the public.
