Hurons do well despite cold temperatures

The Rogers City Hurons track teams hosted their only home meet of the season last Thursday on a cold blustery day. Hosting St. Ignace, Rudyard and Newberry the Hurons ran well in the events they were in. Senior Leilani Kortman continued to do well for the girls? team, as they took third at the meet. Kortman was second in the 100-meter hurdles at 19.51 and second in the 300 hurdles at 56.26.

Freshman Raelyn Hoeft was second in both the 400 and 200 with times of 1:09.37 and 29.27 respectively. Junior Sierra Centala was second in the 800 at 2:58.09 and third in the long jump at 12? 8?. Sophomore Bailey Andrzejewski was third in the mile (6:23.25), fourth in the 400 (1:12.46) and fifth in the high jump (4? 2?).

Freshman Megan Quaine took third in the 300 hurdles at 1:00.33 and fourth in the 100 hurdles at 21.81. Freshman Cynthia Kerr was fifth in the long jump at 11? 8??. Hoeft, Centala, Andrzejewski and Kortman teamed up to take second in the mile relay at 4:58.31. Kortman, Centala, Kerr and Ho

eft were third in the 800 relay at 2:09.26 while Alyssa Sedwick, Quaine, Brittany Ciupka and Becky Talaske teamed up for third in the 400 relay at 1:06.05.

THE BOYS? team was fourth on the meet but were again led by junior Joe Sobeck who was first in the two-mile at 12:07.04, second in the 800 (2:28.47), second in the mile (5:25.04) and fifth in the high jump (5?). Freshman Colton Fessler was third in the two-mile at 12:31.72 and fourth in the mile at 5:55.81. Junior Andrew Freel placed third in the 400 at 59.32 and fifth in the 300 hurdles at 1:04.20. Junior Ken Wirgau was fourth in the 800 at 2:49.64.

?Everything ran really smooth with a lot of help from the parents. I thought the kids ran well despite the cold temperatures,? said coach Rob Kortman. The Hurons were scheduled to be at the Presque Isle County Championships Wednesday in Posen (after press time) and will be in Sault Ste. Marie next Wednesday.
