With a toss of their tassels and shouts of joy, the Rogers City High School (RCHS) Class of 2011 became the latest group of alumni from the school. After class president Michelle Belusar gave the command, the canned string and balloons flew into the air in celebration.

Principal and superintendent Jamie Huber presented 52 seniors for graduation. Huber, in his last year at the post, announced the names of the students as they received diplomas from board president Mike Marx. Before that, salutatorian Nathan Fleming told his classmates that graduation is a moment not to be taken lightly.

?Be proud of your accomplishments and the countless days and hours spent in the classroom learning and doing homework. This is the culmination of all we have done over the majority of our lives,? he said. Fleming gave special thanks to band teacher Ed Wilbert, who he credited with giving him a greater appreciation for music and Mike Kosiara for instilling in him a good work ethic.

?And lastly, I want to thank Mrs. (Marilyn) Dimick for helping our entire class get on track with our college preparations, making a rather hectic and overwhelming time of our lives bearable,? he said. Valedictorian Jordan Bellmore followed with his address, telling his classmates that parents, teachers and administrators can share in the success of the students. ?If a door suddenly shuts before us, we cannot be discouraged. Instead, we must look for the sudden opening of another. Our adulthood, so long anticipated, has now arrived. We have grown up. We must seize our future, take it into our own hands and strive for excellence,? he said.

He encouraged his fellow graduates to take advantage of every opportunity to make their dreams a reality. ?Graduation does not mark the end of your legacy as a Huron. Each and every one of us will always be a Huron. Represent our school with pride and strive to do great things,? Bellmore said. Huber congratulated the seniors on their accomplishments and encouraged them to take a moment to remember all that it means to be a RCHS senior.

?The changes that you have gone through in some ways have snuck up upon us all. Perhaps you, as graduates, have been thinking I can?t believe I am finally graduating,? Huber said. Parents, Huber said, think the

other way, wondering how the time went so quickly.

?As you have gone through all of the changes, some more difficult than others, reflect on the constants that have been there to help you through and get you here today,? Huber said. He advised the graduates to remember they are all each unique, each with gifts and a reason to be on the Earth. ?Never forget, that no matter how overwhelming life?s challenges seem to be, that one person can make a difference in the world. In fact, it is always because of one person that all the changes that matter in the world come about. Be that one person,? Huber said.

The RCHS band, under the direction of Ed Wilbert, presented the class song, I Want You Back, the Alma Mater, and The Star Spangled Banner.
