Three runners earn all-SVC honors, MITCA meet this weekend

Three members of the Onaway High School cross country team earned honors at the Ski Valley Conference meet last week at Central Lake.

Athletes who finished in the top five in the race earned first-team SVC honors. Those finishing in the second five earned second-team honors, while those finishing 11th through 20th earned honorable mention.

Joe Traynham finished sixth among the 53 runners in the boys’ race to earn second-team SVC. Isaac Nave was 19th, Morgan McLean was 20th, and Noah Bacon was 26th. Rich Hoff and Preston Badgero also competed.

Ashley LeCureux was 11th and Hannah Materna was 13th among the 40 athletes in the girls’ race, with both earning honorable mention. Emily Estep, Megan Estep, and Carly Rasper also competed.

“The conditions were the worst I’ve ever seen in a cross country race,” said coach Marty Mix. It was a combination of rain, snow, and hail throughout. We had a good day considering those conditions.”

The cross country team will compete Saturday at the annual MITCA small school state meet Saturday at Shephard and October 26 at a MHSAA regional meet at Central Lake.
