Cards land seven on all conference team

As the high school football playoffs continue for a third week in Michigan, post season awards have been bestowed on several Cardinal players.

The Cards lost a competitive Division VIII playoff game at Central Lake, Oct. 26. Johannesburg-Lewiston ended Central Lake’s season, 40-30, and play at Beal City tonight for a regional title and a spot in the state semifinals.

Seven Cardinals earned recognition on the Ski Valley South all-conference team.

Earning first-team honors were junior quarterback Matt Tollini, senior linebacker Justin Gedda and junior kicker Carlos Bautista. Bautista also made the second team at wide receiver.

The other second team selections were senior defensive end Chae Whitsitt, junior defensive lineman Chris Cleaver, junior tight end Tommy Auger and senior running back Jason Sigsby.

Tollini completed 91 of 165 attempts for 1,538 yards, including 14 touchdowns. He rushed the ball 39 times for 235 yards and touched paydirt five times.

Gedda made 62 tackles from his linebacker spot.

Bautista kicked the ball 37 times for 1,248 yards, including five touchbacks. At wide receiver, he hauled in 17 passes for 373 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Whitsitt made 83 tackles, blocked two punts, sacked the quarterback four times and recorded one safety.

Cleaver finished the season with 86 tackles, blocked one punt and had two QB sacks.

Auger caught 22 balls for 477 yards and scored five times.

Sigsby got 91 touches and rushed for 6445 times, including six TD’s.

For all conference, coaches only used conference game stats. The Outlook was provided with final 2012 stats.
