The Onaway High School drama club has been busy preparing a one-act comedy, Alias Smedley Pewtree or The Villian of Glitter Gulch. The play hits the stage Saturday Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. and Sunday Nov. 18 at 2 p.m.
Telling the story of Glitter Gulch, a once roaring gold mine town that has fallen on hard times, the melodrama focuses on the villainous banker, Smedley Pewtree. Pewtree is forcing the few families left to pay up or get out of town.
During a fierce blizzard the town’s people crowd into the eerie and deserted Nugget, a former gambling palace reputedly haunted by the spirits of long departed miners. Twists and turns come out during the hilarious over the top action and finally the true villain is revealed.
Cast members for the production are Ellie McLellan as the sheriff, Mike Hart as the assayer, Jordan Bischer as the preacher’s widow, Emilee Madison as Goldie, Sara Fullerton as Constance Lafoon, Denise Porter as Obnoxious Little Irving, Madi Nash as the mysterious flower woman, Thomas Anglin as Smedley Pewtree and Justin Pochmara as Rock Quarry.
Victoria Anglin, Brianna Fitzpatrick, Emily Glass and Maddy Watts play the dazzling Glitter Gulch Gals. Hailey Alcarez, Darbey Gaynor, Grace Henning, Danielle Hosner, Kayde Middaugh, Alyssa Road, Micah Satchwell and Lisa Tulgestke make up the production crew for the show. The play was written by Tim Kelly and the drama club is presenting the comedy by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Inc. of Englewood, Colorado. Tickets for the show are $2 for students, $4 for adults and $10 for a family.
