The suspect was spotted in the area of South First Street and State. The Presque Isle County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit was asked to respond and began to track the suspect.

An anonymous tip led police to a residence on North First Street where the suspect was hiding and taken into custody.

The suspect then became combative and resisted officers while he was be

The suspect continued to resist, kicking and threatening officers. He caused damaged to a sheriff’s department vehicle and repeatedly kicked at the back window of the patrol vehicle.

The suspect continued to resist officers at the county jail and had to be placed in a secure restraint chair.

The press release states he resisted six officers and a corrections officer.

His preliminary examination in 89th District Court is Jan. 8 at 11 a.m.

Bond has been set at $25,000 cash or surety. He has been unable to post and will remain incarcerated.

It was the second incident where Onaway Police Department chief James Gibson has been allegedly assaulted since early October. The other defendant’s case is still pending in Circuit Court. In that incident, Gibson was choked.
