Board approves contracts and rates for new year

The Presque Isle County Board of Commissioners met the day after Christmas to make up the meeting scheduled for Dec. 21, 2012 that was canceled due to a winter storm. The board was a bit shorthanded that day with only three commissioners present but they were able to get some important business taken care of before the end of 2012.

The board unanimously approved the contract for 9-1-1 coordinator Renee Szymanski in the same amount it had been previously, for $10,000 annually. The board also improved the contract for emergency services coordinator Norm Smith with a $500 per year increase to bring the total contract to $13,000 annually.

Smith was able to show the board how new state and federal requirements have changed a lot of his responsibilities, meaning more time on the job. With documentation of this the board approved an increase in compensation.

The board also approved per diem and mileage rates for 2013 at the same rate that was paid in 2012.

A contract extension for Colleen Main for five months was approved as a tax consultant trainer. Main was hired into that capacity after being removed from the county treasurer position due to a bonding issue. Main will bill the county at a rate of $20 per hour for up to 40 hours per week.

The treasurer’s office employees will be allowed to work a 40-hour work week, versus the normal 35 hour work week, for the next six months to allow for interoffice training across positions.
