The Algocanada docked in the frigid waters at the Port of Calcite last week.

The crew had a load of 60,000 barrels of diesel fuel from Sarnia to delivery to Petro Noble’s 80,000-barrel tank. It was about 10,000 barrels less than the company had asked for, but she had to come in light because of low lake levels. The freighter didn’t have any problems with the 3-inch thick ice.

They started to unload Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and finished up Sunday at 6 p.m. The ice had already froze around it, before her departure. The 60,000 barrels is about 2.4 million gallons of fuel.  (Photo courtesy of Carmeuse Lime & Stone)
