Five compete at state wrestling finals

(AUBURN HILLS)-Five Presque Isle County wrestlers are competing in the individual state wrestling finals at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Wrestling began Thursday with the grand march featuring the top 224 wrestlers in four divisions.
In the opening round Rogers City Huron seniors Evan Lamb and Caleb Pommerenke won their bouts to advance to the championship quarterfinals.
Lamb (135) defeated Bredndon Rodenburg of Kent City 12-5 and will move on to face Hudson’s Wyatt Spangler tomorrow in the quarterfinals which begin at approximately 11 a.m.
Pommerenke (189) defeated Bronson’s Brett Burtrum 18-4 to advance to the quarterfinals to face Cody Symons of New Lothrop.
Rogers City sophomore Jacob Sobeck (125) was pinned by Zach Francis of Lutheran Westland in 3:30 and will take on Langsburg’s Malachi Marshall tomorrow in the consolation round beginning at 8:30 a.m.
FOR ONAWAY freshman Isaac Nave (103) fell to Addison’s Jacob Voss 7-3. Nave will face off with Bangor’s Ishmael Hodge Friday morning.
Senior Morgan Robins (140)  fell to Addison’s Justin Schroeder by pin in 1:17. Robins now drops to the consolation bracket where he will face Kent City’s Jayson Ellicott.
