Nave narrowly missed medal podium

Freshman Isaac Nave had a fabulous first season as a high school wrestler. Nave won the district title and finished third at regionals to qualify for the individual state finals at 103 pounds.

Nave fell to Jacob Voss of Addison 7-3 in the opening round of the tournament. Voss would go on to finish third. Nave then dropped to the consolation bracket and pinned Ishmael Hodge of Bangor in 2:45.

Up next for Nave was a match with Schoolcraft’s Justin Braford with the winner moving on to get a medal and the loser being knocked out.

The match was a tight one, and Nave hooked up a Peterson roll during the second period but the referee failed to award any points for the move. With little time left in the mach Nave tied the score at three and forced overtime. In overtime he would take a nice shot on his opponent and the two would scramble with Braford ultimately gaining control and winning t

he match.

Nave finished with a record of 34-13 this season, a great start to his high school career.

SENIOR MORGAN Robins did not fare so well at the finals but still ended his career on the big stage at the state finals as one of the top 16 wrestlers at 140 pounds in Division IV. Robins was pinned by Addison’s Justin Schroeder in 1:17 and fell to Kent City’s Jayson Ellicott 6-2 to end his career and run at all-state honors.

Robin was 27-12 this season and was able to bounce back from an early season injury to qualify for the state finals for the first time in his career.
