Coach Hentkowski steps down after eight successful seasons

Posen High School will be looking for a new boys’ basketball coach as Steve Hentkowski stepped down. His resignation became official at Monday’s board of education meeting.

Hentkowski, who took over the program the season after the 2005 trip to the Breslin Center, enjoyed many successful seasons leading Posen teams.

He won three North Star League championships, five district titles and led the Vikings to back-to-back regional final appearances. One of them was an overtime loss to Cedarville. That Vikings’ team gave Steve his best season coaching record at 23-2. His career record is 118-67.

“It was time,” said Hentkowski. “I had a great run, and had some great players.” He also expressed his appreciation for all the community support over the years.

This past season, the Vikes knocked off Onaway in a district semifinal game, before losing in the district final to Hillman.

Hentkowski said he will be spending his new found time bear hunting, helping his family with whatever needs they have, and working on classic cars.
