Spring shows on the calendar, but winter remains

Warmer temperatures made for thinning ice on Long Lake this week. Fishermen on the southern end of Presque Isle County had long abandoned their shanties and tracks from the public access led out into the vacant blue ice as the trail from a jet is visible in the evening sky.

Although spring came two weeks ago, the air had not warmed up enough to play spring sports as all games for area high schools were cancelled this week. The weather forecast called for falling temperatures with snow on the horizon for Friday and Saturday.
