Hurons make softball final four

It is on to Battle Creek for the Huron softball team. Rogers City mercied Frankfort 14-2 Tuesday in Traverse City to earn a spot in the Division 4 state semifinals. The Lady Hurons play the winner of the Gobles vs. number one ranked Kalamazoo Christian. That game is set for 4 p.m. Tuesday at Hope College.

In the bottom half of the bracket, Ubly survived a 10-inning affair with Portland St. Patrick to advance to the semifinals. Ubly plays the winner of the Concord vs. number 4 ranked Grosse Pointe Woods game scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday at Adrian College.

The Hurons, ranked third in the final coach’s poll, fell behind 1-0 after Frankfort’s first at bat, as they scored an unearned run after a double and an error. That Frankfort lead lasted only briefly after an 8-run Huron answer in the bottom of the first inning.

Rogers City now moves on to the Division 4 semifinal game set for 1 p.m. Friday in Battle Creek.
