Onaway was buzzing with activity last week as it hosted the annual Fourth of July celebration.

The parade of course drew the largest crowd with the streets packed with people from all around. St. Paul Hall took the most creative float award winner while Tom’s Family Market was the judge’s choice float. Little Miss Fourth of July was the most patriotic award winner.

A highlight of the parade each year is the unveiling of what Tom Moran of Moran Iron Works has built and this year it was an aircraft carrier.

“Ov

erall the Fourth of July celebration was a success. Everything ran very smoothly, the crafters had a great day, the parade was good and there were people around,” said Onaway Area Chamber of Commerce president Connie Gibson.

Gibson did say that attendance at the teen dance and adult dance under the tent at Maxon Field was down over the weekend and the interest for the children’s games was low as well. But with the holiday falling on a Thursday many had other plans for the weekend.

Kathy Baumgarten was the winner of the chuck-a-duck contests while Alan Benaway was second and Trace Rose was third.

Onaway opened its doors and held a celebration of our nation’s independence for many to enjoy and participate in as people flooded the streets of Onaway for the grand parade and were in the area to watch the fireworks.
