Melvin Wayne Smart, 81, of Gaylord, passed away September 27, 2013.

He was born May 15, 1932 in Mansfield, Missouri to Claude and Minnie (Fleming) Smart.Mel is survived by his wife, Lucy; eight children, Thomas (Tami) Smart of Posen, Claudia (Robert) Paschke of Rogers City, Patricia (Terry) Schellie of Alpena, John (Jean) Smart of California, Johanna (Kevin) Misiak of Lake Orion, Robert “Pete” (Shelly) Smart of California, David (DeeDee) Smart of Nevada and Jennifer Molski of Gaylord; 15 grandchildren, Robert Jr., Gregory (Sarah), Mark, Nicole (Brady), Nathan, Christopher (Judy), Tyler, Jacob, Shelby, Justin, Matthew, Zachary, Ianna, C.J. and Beck; and a great-grandson, Max.
