Willard “Red” Atkins

Willard “Red” Atkins, 85, of Rogers City, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013, at his home.

The son of George and Grace (Strong) was born March 2, 1928 in Millersburg. After graduating from Onaway High School he entered the United States Army and served his country from 1945 until 1949. Red married Gene Muzyl June 16, 1950, together they made their home in Rogers city.

Surviving are his wife, Gene; three sons, Richard (Erin), Michael (Trish) and James; six daughters, Beverly (Ted) Getzmeyer, Jeanette Atkins, Diane (Steve) Porter, Yvonne (Neil) Brege, Sally (John) Meharg and Nancy (Chris) Tulgestka all of Rogers City; a sister, Peg (Ed) McNamara

of Birch Run; three sister-in-laws, Barb Atkins of Sandusky, Lee Atkins of North Carolina and Marleah Muzyl of Gaylord; a brother-in-law, Bruno Muzyl of Gaylord; 29 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Monday September 30, at Hentkowski Funeral Home with the rosary and parish prayer service that evening. Visitation continued at the funeral home Tuesday until the funeral Mass at St. Ignatius Catholic Church with the Rev. Sylvestre Obwaka officiating. Burial followed at Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 607.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Sunrise Side, St. Ignatius Catholic School, or the Rev. Paul Grala (missionary priest).
