Board of canvassers to convene for recount

The recount for elections conducted in Onaway and Rogers City will be after the holiday weekend.

According to Presque Isle County clerk Ann Marie Main, members of the Presque Isle County Board of Canvassers will be meeting Monday at noon in the commissioners’ meeting room at the courthouse.

Incumbent Onaway city commissioner Jessie Horrocks, who was recalled from office by one vote, requested a recount of the votes tabulated in the Nov. 5 election.

Roger Marsh won election and served at the last Onaway City Commission meeting, Nov. 18. He has two more meetings coming in December, unless the recount goes Horrocks’ way.

If the vote count ends up in a tie, names will be drawn from a hat or a basket, whatever is decided, to determine the outcome.

The Onaway commission meets later that night.

If Horrocks wins the recount and the board of canvassers certifies it, there is a chance she could be back on the commission as early as the next meeting that night.

Marsh could also extend his lead and continue serving through the month of December.

Horrocks will begin serving a new, two-year term in January.

In Rogers City, councilwoman Debra K. Greene requested a recount of the results in the mayoral race won by fellow council member, Tom Sobeck.

Greene has served on council for 22 years. She finished third Nov. 5.
