Two Onaway High School students are working to raise money for a once in a lifetime experience, a trip to Australia with People to People Ambassador Programs. Senior Sara Fullerton and junior Elyse Arkwood have been fundraising since November and have until May to come up with the money needed for the trip.

The focus of People to People’s Australian Adventure is on adventure, culture, service and conservation. Students will gain firsthand knowledge of Aboriginal culture by dancing, spear throwing and boomerang tossing as well as snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef.

In addition to staying with a host family they will be doing many service trips including delivering school supplies to a needy school, and will study with marine biologists as well.

“I think it is a very good opportunity and one we may never encounter again,” said Fullerton.

“I am really excited to learn about different culture,” said Arkwood.

THE STUDENTS will be holding a spaghetti dinner this Saturday, Jan. 18, from 5 until 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria to help raise money for their trip. They have already conducted bake sales, bottle drives, a wreath sale and have asked for sponsors. As their fundraising efforts continue they are offering the dinner.
