Nave, Traynham and Selke in semifinals at Palace wrestling state finals

(AUBURN HILLS)–Three Presque Isle County wrestlers will compete in the state semifinals tonight at 7 pm. Onaways Joe Traynham (112) and Zeke Nave (119) as well as Rogers City’s Andrew Selke (215) are 2-0 through two rounds at the state tournament.

Traynham pinned Maher Ramirez of Bangor in 2:44 in the opening round. In his quarterfinal match he pinned Addison’s Marcus Robinson in 19 seconds. He will face Hudson’s Tyler Roberts in the semifinals.

Nave defeated Lamont Cannon 8-6 and pinned Bangor’s Ishmael Hodge in 53 seconds to move on to the semifinals where he will face Dansville’s Dresden Simon.

Selke defeated Dakota Clark of New Lothrop 9-1 in the first round. He then won a 3-1 overtime match against Hudson’s Jacob Morgan. He will face Kevin Koenig of Langsburg in the semifinals.

All t

hree are guaranteed to medal and earn all-state honors. A win tonight will propel them into the championship match.

Jacob Sobeck (140) of Rogers City is 1-1 and will wrestle in the consolation round. He defeated Hayden Cregg of Holton 4-0 before losing to Hudson’s Cole Weaver 12-5. He will face Isaiah Espinoza this afternoon.

Onaways Casey Watson (189) is also 1-1. He defeated jonesville’s Garrett Griffiths 7-0 before losing to schoolcraft’s cody mikel 12-7. He will take on Hart’s Carl Morgan this afternoon.

Sobeck and Watson are one win away from a spot on the podium.
