Renovations change the face of high school

The hallways at Rogers City High School always look different this time of year as students are out on summer vacation. This year, however, they look much different as a major renovation project has taken over the school.

Renovations began the day after graduation and have been chugging right along, according to principal David O’Bryant the work is ahead of schedule. Ceiling tiles have been ripped out of all the hallways, walls have been taken out of classrooms and offices, and windows are getting ready to be replaced.

Taking a drive down Huron Avenue past the front of the school it is easy to see where crews have been preparing for the new windows to come in as the band room, weight room, art room, cafeteria and front entrance are ready for new windows and boxed in right now.

Last week secretary Chrissy Vogelheim had to move her office into the meeting room at central office as they had the back wall of the office completely torn down as they worked to frame it in for the new, smaller windows that will be going in.

The focus right now is the wing of the school surrounding the gymnasium as they work to have that completed before the Nautical City Queen’s pageant at the end of July. Work will continue throughout the summer as the ceiling tiles are replaced, exit doors are put in every classroom and the windows are made smaller and more energy efficient.
