Kristy Hopp danced her way to the title of Presque Isle County Fair Queen at Tuesday’s pageant in Millersburg. Moments after master of ceremonies Joe Brewbaker announced Hopp as the winner of the coordination award, he named the daughter of Ken and Nancy Hopp as the new fair queen. Ericka Pauly, last year’s queen, had the honor of crowning her successor.

Hopp won the coordination award as voted on by the judges and shared the evening gown award. She displayed her talent with her dance routine that featured four different styles of dancing. Hopp won the award for selling the most tickets.

When posed with the final question from Brewbaker on where in the county she would take a visitor, she had a positive answer.

“I would take them first to Rogers City to go salmon fishing on Lake Huron. I would then take them to see the largest limestone quarry in the world, because our county is proud of the natural resources we possess,” Hopp said.

First runner-up honors went to Sami Bober, who performed an acrobatic dance and cheer routine, winning the talent award for her efforts. She also won the congeniality award and shared the evening gown award.

Second runner-up honors went to Mariah Ehrke, who performed a vocal presentation.

The opening number, choreographed by Nicole Bannasch, was to “Classic” by MKTO highlighted the six contestants’ dancing skills.

Other contestants and their talent presentations were: Amber Pilarski, a sign language routine; Andrea Stalker, a cheer and dance routine; and Kate Olmsted who presented a country dance routine.

Ericka Pauly, in her farewell address, said it was an honor to represent the county and the various events during the year. She thanked many people in her talk including her father, Scott, for his unend

ing support, and her best friend, Rebecca Myers, Miss Rogers City 2013 for encouraging her to enter the pageant and helping with the pageant this year.

Whittnie Smillie and Kim Smillie were pageant directors, responsible for a smooth running event and Ken Smolinski of Power Play DJ served as sound engineer for the fourth straight year.

Judges for the event were Melissa Goodrich, Julie Labar and Carly Paul. Auditors were Molly Ellenberger and Jenny Zybal.

The event was the first of two pageants. The second pageant, staged Wednesday (after press time) featured two groups of younger contestants.
