Cardinal boys win conference title, Traynham wins individual title

The Onaway cross country team traveled to Central lake Wednesday for the Ski Valley Conference Championships and came home with some hardware.

Joe Traynham won his second consecutive conference title Wednesday at Central Lake.

 

For the second consecutive season Joe Traynham took the individual conference title, winning the race with a time of 17:30, nearly a full minute ahead of his closest competition.

Morgan McLean was fourth overall with a time of 18:41 to join Traynham on the first-team all-conference.

Seth Satchwell was 12th at 19:24 to earn a spot on the honorable mention all-conference team. Preston Badgero was 18th at 20:33, Cameron Horn was 19th at 20:35 and Troy Klein was 25th at 20:59 to help the team place first.

The Cardinal boys’ team captured the title with 51 points ahead of Mancelona (56), Inland Lakes (62), Gaylord St. Mary (76) and Bellaire (95).

th 67 points behind Inland Lakes (23) but ahead of Gaylord St. Mary (68) and Johannesburg-Lewiston (70).

Clare Bastian finished fourth at 22:26 to earn first-team all-conference honors. Sammy Pasella was 16th at 24:23. Kate Olmsted was 19th at 24:47, Summer Harmon-Cooksey was 27th at 25:45 and Desi Stiles was 37th at 29:28.

In middle school action with 61 total runners Teddy Peters was second while Jager Mix was third. Spencer Nash was 26th, Aidan Fry was 28th, Cody Lovelace was 41st and Vivianna Austin was 53rd.

The Cardinals are off this weekend and return to action Oct. 18 at the Class D State Championships.
