CC regionals tomorrow at Central Lake

The Rogers City Hurons cross country teams have had a very successful season so far and they look to continue adding to the successes at the regional meet tomorrow (Friday) at Central Lake. The Hurons will be looking to advance to the state finals with a good race at regionals.

Saturday the team traveled to Gaylord for the Northern Michigan Cross Country Championships Rotary Invitational at Michaywe Pines Golf Club.

The girls’ team finished third in the Division 3 and 4 (D3/D4) standings with 129 points behind Charlevoix (74) and Harbor Springs (37). Harbor Springs will be a competitor at the regional meet Friday.

Sophomore Emily Malocha led the way for the Hurons finishing at 21:00 for seventh in D3/D4 and 24th overall. Senior Sami Bober was 12th in the D3/D4 race and 39th overall at 22:05.

Senior Victoria Bullock finished at 23:42 for 29th in the D3/D4 race and 71st overall, junior Amber Nowicki was 37th in the D3/D4 race and 81st overall at 24:08 and senior Alysse Hempel finished in  24:18  for 44th in the D3/D4 race and 89th overall to round out the scoring for the Hurons who were ninth overall with all divisions included.

THE BOYS’ team was sixth in the D3/D4 race and 10th overall. Harbor Springs won the D3/D4 race.

Senior Jacob Flemming led the way for the Hurons as he was 17th in the D3/D4 race and 34th overall at 18:37. Senior Jacob Sobeck was 21st in the D3/D4 race and 41st overal

l at 18:53.

Freshman Phil Grambau was 31st in the D3/D4 race and 58th overall at 19:19. Freshman Jacob Shoemaker finished at 19:59 and was 41st in the D3/D4 race and 76th overall.

Sophomore Jacob Hilla rounded out scoring for the Hurons with a 21:01 as he was 57th in the D3/D4 race and 98th overall.

Other runners were sophomore Brendan Koss who was 60th in the D3/D4 race and 101st overall at 21:11 and sophomore Chris Tulgestka who was 114th overall and 69th in the D3/D4 race at 22:07.

At the regional meet Friday at the Jean Burns Farm the boys’ race will  begin at 3 p.m. followed by the girls’ race at 3:45 and will feature runners from Alanson, Alba, Bellaire, Boyne Falls, Central Lake, Ellsworth Community, Fairview, Gaylord St. Mary, Harbor Springs, Indian River, Johannesburg-Lewiston, Alcona, Mackinaw City, Onaway, Pellston, Wolverine and of course Rogers City.
