Comedy opens Friday at Rogers City Theatre

“A Christmas Carol in Da U..P., Ya, Sure!” is the fall production of the Rogers City Community Theatre. The comedy is set at the Bunyan Bar in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on Christmas Eve. Cantankerous bar owner Gunner Johnson (Mike Marx) gets into an argument with his wife, Clara (Denise Perrault) and tells her he is skipping Christmas this year.

What happens next is a trip on his snowmobile that lands Gunner in a coma, where he is visited by folk legend Sven Yorgensen (Ed Perrault) who plays the ghost of Christmas past, present and future. Knute (Wes Eagleson) a U.P. business owner and Bernice (Lucy DeDecker) help tell the story of Gunner’s journey into, and possibly out of a coma that may change his outlook.

Director Karl W. Heidemann said “The cast has been having a lot of fun on this one. It’s kind of like Charles Dickens meets Escanaba in da Moonlight. Our biggest problem has been trying to stop laughing.”

The show opens Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Rogers City Theater and is has shows Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday 2 p.m. Showtimes for the Nov. 7, 8 and 9 are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m and Sunday at 2 p.m.
