Hefele updates commission on overhaul of city Web site

With a light agenda for Monday’s Onaway City Commission meeting city manager Joe Hefele took advantage of having extra time to update the commissioners on his Web site overhaul plan as well as an outline for the Onaway code of ordinances.

Hefele is hopeful that the Web site will be completed by the end of the calendar year. He outlined the different drop-down menu options he plans to have on the site. The first would be a place for the city charter.

A tab for the city commission would list the dates of the meetings as well as include biographical information on the mayor and the city commissioners.

The city manager’s bio would be another tab with yet another for the city clerk/treasurer and city attorney.

Another section would be for the assessor/board of review including contact information for city assessor Clarkson Most as well as meeting dates for the board of review.

A public works link would list the names of those working for the department and state the duties of the crew. The public safety link would state that Onaway contracts with the Presque Isle County Sheriff’s department for law enforcement as well as give information regarding the fire department and ambulance service.

Other sections would be for planning and zoning, which would include the planning commission, downtown development including the authority members, a section on taxes and fees including millage information and breakdown, and a utilities tab including rates and polices.

Recreation and an “about Onaway” header would also be created to provide information on city parks as well as facts about the city. Once the chamber of commerce is back up and running the city and the chamber would likely link their sites as well.

Another header would be for local ordinances, which will include the new code once it is completed.

HEFELE IS currently working on the city’s code of ordinances that would outline all the ordinances the city has. He hopes to involve Rogers City assistant engineer Toby Kuznicki, who is also in charge of planning and zoning there, in the creation of a street plan for the city. Kuznicki has been r

ecognized for his role in transportation asset management, rating roads by condition and coming up with a plan to fix them in a certain order. The idea would be that Onaway would reimburse Rogers City for the time Kuznicki spends on the plan. Commissioners were in support of the concept.
