Gertrude R. Stevens

Gertrude R. Stevens, 77, of Kingsland, Georgia died Monday, December 15, 2014 at South East Georgia Health Systems in St. Mary’s, Georgia. The daughter of Walter and Josephine (Gordier) McClary, Gertrude was born at home in Millersburg July 15, 1937.  On June 4, 1960 she married George William Stevens Jr. in Flint.  They made their home in Lake Orion until 1984 when they retired and returned to the Onaway area.

Surviving Gertrude are her two sons, Bob Stevens (Cindy DeRosia) of Onaway and Frank “Skinny” (Susan) Stevens of Kingsland, Georgia; a stepson, Mike (Jeannie) McCreery of Ortonville; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; as well as her sisters, Charlotte Streeter of Onaway and Mary Wirgau of Rogers City; a brother, Bill McClary of Onaway; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at the Chagnon Funeral Home Thursday, December 18, from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. The funeral service will be today (Friday, December 19) at 11 a.m. at the Onaway Baptist Chapel, 19420 E. M-68 Hwy., Onaway. The Rev. Jim Warner will officiate.  Gertrude’s final resting place will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tower.
