It took three weeks, but the Outlook has found its New Year’s Baby.

CORY AND Shannon Grzesikowski have been celebrating the birth of their first child, Anka, who also is the Outlook’s first baby of 2015.

Anka Grace Grzesikowski is the beautiful daughter of Cory and Shannon (Mason) Grzesikowski of Onaway.

The infant, who was born Jan. 21 at 2:52 a.m., weighed 7 pounds, 2.5 ounces and was 19 3/4 inches long.

“Anka is Polish and means Grace,” said Shannon.

“We wanted a unique name,” said Cory.

The couple has been married for a year-and-a-half and has deep roots in the community. The couple and baby are the recipients of many fine gifts from the Onaway area business community. The certificates and gift cards were delivered Wednesday.

Shannon, who gave birth to her first child, was not sure if a New Year’s Baby had been crowned, but called the Outlook anyway. “We didn’t think there was any chance. We just took a shot in the dark.”

Anka was nearly right on schedule, missing her due date by only two days. She was due Jan. 23.

“I had contractions for four days,” said Shannon. She went into McLaren Northern Michigan of Petoskey on Jan. 19, but they did not think she was in labor. The contractions were closer apart the next day so she went back in and her water broke. Anka was born the next day.

“It’s been amazing,” said Shannon. “It’s the be

st gift you could ever receive. She only cries when she is hungry.”

Anka has two stepbrothers, Zeb and Zane Grzesikowski of Rogers City, who also love the little bundle of joy. The grandparents are Al and Norma Grzesikowski and Tim and Pam Mason, all of Onaway. Her great-grandparents parents are Lois and Bruce Price of Onaway, Shirley and Alvin Zampich of Millersburg and Carol Mason of Onaway.

Shannon is a nurse at Bay Bluffs in Harbor Springs and Cory is a lineman for I.T.C. of Gaylord.
